A Twenty Point Plan for Our Future
In 2019, I asked you to #BelieveAgain and you did by electing me Mayor. It hasn’t been easy, but I kept my promises. So, in 2023 I ask again for your support to complete what I’ve started. I recognize that residents want a safe and healthy environment to live in, activities and job training opportunities for our young people, and smooth pot-hole free roads to travel the four square miles of our City. That’s why I make this pledge to focus on these issues toward making the City of Mount Vernon a safer, more prosperous city for us all!
Here is my pledge to you for the next four years. If I am re-elected Mayor...
We will continue to complete the comprehensive plan and make Mount Vernon a destination once again with proper planning and development.
We will continue to repave roads in Mount Vernon building on the $9.5 million in grant funding we started with in 2021 and fight potholes.
We will continue to tear down nasty zombie homes and return them to the tax roll.
We will continue our $163 million sewer upgrades to fix our crumbling sewer infrastructure.
We will continue invest in our neighborhoods through the Office of Neighborhood Safety & engagement.
We will invest in our city owned buildings to bring our Armory, Fire Stations, Police Department and many more up to standard.
We will invest in our youth by building a state-of-the-art Youth Activity Center on the Southside of Mount Vernon.
We will support our seniors with Financial Empowerment Center resources to help them keep their homes.
We will expand economic development opportunities in our downtown areas to revitalize corridors like 3rd & 3rd and, 1st Street, Sanford Boulevard, Mount Vernon Avenue and Fleetwood through grants.
We will continue funding code enforcement to prevent blight and maintain housing standards.
We will keep rebuilding our fund balance and deliver budgets that have surpluses to save for those rainy days.
We’re going to restore our bond rating, lost in 2018, to ensure that capital expenses are not paid by operational tax dollars.
We will invest in our public safety departments, Police & Fire, to help maintain a safer Mount Vernon and continue the decrease in violent crime.
We will keep fighting for Mount Vernon Hospital to be a premier trauma and maternal health center so that babies can be born again in our city.
We will invest in bringing a new hotel into Mount Vernon to support our growing entertainment and sports interest at Memorial Stadium.
We will keep Memorial Stadium open and accessible to all families.
We will create a comprehensive public safety plan that brings everyone to the table and provides a roadmap to a safer community.
We will release our Open Green Space plan to show how Mount Vernon parks and playgrounds can work better for you.
We Will make Mount Vernon a place that you can have fun, eat and live in once again.
We Will make sure that the reputation of Mount Vernon continues to improve and that your government continues to function with the highest standards of accountability and transparency.
