Meet Shawyn’s Team

Over the last four years, one of the main reasons we’ve been able to deliver positive change for the people of Mount Vernon is that I have treated my colleagues in government as partners and not adversaries. We don’t always agree with each other, but we always treat each other with respect and try to find common ground. In order to continue making government work for the people, I need partners who understand what our city needs and how to best achieve it. That’s why Jaevon Boxhill and Derrick Thompson are exactly the right choices for City Council.

Re-Elect Councilman Derrick Thompson

Re-elect Councilman Derrick Thompson

Derrick was educated in the Mount Vernon School District from Elementary School through High School. He has been employed by the Mount Vernon School District since September of 1995.

His family and friends know him as the man who can do ANYTHING. He credits his mother Deborah Seward-Thompson for instilling the values in him to survive and ALWAYS do right by other people. He always goes above and beyond to help people.

Derrick became a Foster Parent in October of 20221 because one of his students were in dire need of placement. Derrick enjoys being a father, son, uncle, cousin, nephew, educator, entrepreneur and motivational speaker, but most of all; he loves being a servant to his community and helping people in need. Uplifting, encouraging and teaching people gives him great joy.
